We are proud to manufacture and deliver our reception desks from Halifax in West Yorkshire.
Halifax is Calderdale’s largest town and has one of the most complete Victorian townscapes in Britain, with many impressive buildings, such as the Grade II* listed Town Hall, opened in 1863 and the Halifax Minster, which has been the heart of the local community for over 900 years.
Halifax is also home to the truly unique Grade I listed Piece Hall; the only remaining cloth hall in Britain. The building, which first opened in 1779 has undergone a multi-million Pound refurbishment and reopened to the public on Yorkshire Day, Tuesday 1st August 2017. We even have a 15-foot-high replica of the Halifax Gibbet, where thieves were beheaded for their crimes!
Our town has been recognised for museums, great entertainment and hospitality. It even has a pub named after Percy Shaw, the Halifax born inventor of the ‘cats eyes’ reflective road stud. Halifax blends the old with the new, for example, the historical Victoria Theatre with the new Vue Cinema and the Victorian Borough Market with the modern Woolshops Shopping Centre.
Outside of the town centre we have lots of parks, including Shibden Estate and the Ogden Water Country Park and Nature Reserve.
Whilst the kids have been winding down and looking forward to their summer holidays, we’ve been busy manufacturing storage cupboards for one of our local schools. We hope you’ll agree these eye-catching Delft blue units deserve 10/10
Summer is finally upon us and, if you’re anything like us, you’ll probably be wondering how to get your body beach ready. Bringing healthy moves into your daily office routine won’t turn you into a ripped adonis or a beach goddess, but it could contribute towards your long-term health.
Research shows that sitting all day is generally a bad idea, so moving your body, every half an hour if possible, could help to limit the harmful effects of desk jobs and other sedentary lifestyles. So… maybe we could try: -
Getting up and stretching or moving a little every 30 minutes
Taking the stairs instead of the lift
Going for a walk at lunchtime
Holding a walking meeting instead of being seated
Doing a workout during the day, if you have the time and flexibility in your job
Wearing ankle weights and doing some leg lifts under the desk
Pedalling a mini exercise bike under your desk
Whatever you do, we wish you all a happy, sunny and active June
Back to Nature
As the earth comes to life with regrowth, we take a moment to consider the biophilia hypothesis, which suggests that humans possess an innate tendency to seek connections with nature and other forms of life. With people living and working indoors 90% of the time, it is no surprise that the biophilic design trend has come to the forefront and is becoming borderline best practice for architects, building engineers, and designers.
This trend goes beyond adding a few plants to your office, Biophilic design at its core uses nature as an architectural framework to weave the forms of nature into the built environment through the use of textures, colours, patterns, natural lighting, and live plants. This trend is growing in popularity in places where nature is not easily attainable such as offices. We think the beech and green desk below embraces the vibrant colours of spring beautifully.
Springtime traditionally marks the time many of us get the urge to declutter and get organised.
Why not have some of our built in storage units, shelving or under desk pedestals incorporated
into your new reception desk?
We hope you’re all managing to stay safe and warm as “the Beast from the East” strikes.
Here, in freezing Halifax, we are looking forward to the Vernal (Spring) Equinox on Tuesday the 20th March, when the Sun shines directly on the equator and the length of night and day are nearly equal. After this point, the days will get longer and the nights will get shorter until the summer solstice in June.
British Summer Time (BST) officially begins at 1am on Sunday the 25th March when the clocks go forward 1 hour giving us more daylight in the evenings.
We’re so excited that March has arrived and winter is coming to an end that we’ve gone a bit mad
…… take a look at our Special Offers Page to take advantage of our MAD MARCH OFFERS!!!
This month seems the perfect opportunity to share our checklist below, which helps us to ensure that our clients love their new reception desks:-
- How many receptionists will work at the desk?
- Do you need provision at the desk for computer monitors, printers or security equipment?
- Should monitors be visible to your visitors or concealed behind a privacy top box?
- Will the desk need to be accessible to wheelchair users?
- Are visitors required to sign in? Do you prefer a high-level counter for them to lean on or a standard desk-high surface, perhaps with a raised glass signing shelf?
- Will the receptionist need storage? What would work best: pedestals, shelving or cupboards?
- Are there any structural considerations, such as walls or columns?
- How will the receptionist access the desk?
- Will the reception desk be purely functional or does it need to be bold and make a statement?
- Should it be curved, straight or a combination of both?
- How should the desk be finished? Wood effect or block colour or a combination of both?
3. Helpful information
- A simple drawing or sketch of the proposed reception area with measurements and any structural elements or power supplies clearly marked
A clear understanding of our client’s needs and specification is paramount to manufacturing a reception desk from our ranges of standard or bespoke modular units that not only fulfils their requirements, but does so in the most cost effective way.
We hope you have all enjoyed the festive season and set yourselves some achievable goals and resolutions for the year ahead.
Ours, of course, will be to manufacture and deliver reception desks and storage units that meet the requirements of our clients and, at every opportunity, exceed their expectations.
